How It Works Listening Better

A Video-Based Bible Study for Small Groups

A Bible Study in a Video
In these short, ad-free videos, we look at our common, everyday listening habits. Then, we open the Bible to see what Jesus did instead, learning how to replace our defaults with listening better habits.
Participant Workbook
Going Deeper
The workbook is your space to go deeper. It allows you to spend more time unpacking the specific Scripture passages introduced in the videos, asking thoughtful questions about Jesus' intent, and reflecting on what it looks like to apply these habits in your own life.

Why $12? Why 40 groups?

Twelve disciples. Twelve baskets overflowing after five loaves and two fish were placed in Jesus' hands. Everything good in this story begins small—and multiplies.Listening Better is my five loaves and two fish. It's something I created with the hope that it will help us follow Jesus more closely, by listening the way He listened. My prayer is that the Lord will multiply this small offering. In Scripture, forty represents a season of preparation for a new chapter—from Noah’s time in the ark, to the wilderness journey, to Jesus’ forty days. That's why I'm not just looking for buyers. I'm looking for 40 groups who will walk this Listening Better journey with me—and help shape what it becomes. As a thank you to these founding groups:Your feedback will shape the final version: This will be our material, not just mine.Acknowledgment: With your permission, your group's name will be included in the finished edition when it reaches the wider world.Lifetime Access: You'll receive every future upgrade of this material free, for life.==

What is Listening Better Project

Listening as a spiritual discipline

Listening is an overlooked spiritual discipline. As Christians, we have developed many tools and learned many ways to share the gospel and the love of God through our words and our actions. But there is one powerful approach that is often underutilized:
Simply listening the way Jesus did.
Listening is not just a communication skill. It is a spiritual discipline—a way to train ourselves to follow Jesus more closely. When we listen with presence, care, and love, we are actively sharing the love of Christ with the person in front of us.The Listening Better Project was created with a simple hope: to open the Bible, see how Jesus listened, and learn how to apply His example to our everyday lives.

Thank you for listening.

Listening is not always dramatic. It won’t always feel productive.  But when you choose to listen with love—you reflect the heart of Jesus.Thank you for being here.May your listening begin with love.— Yumiko, Custodian of The Listening Better Project
